A Legacy of Service

In 1910, Randolph Murdaugh, Sr. opened a law firm in Hampton, South Carolina. He was driven by the simple idea that he could make his community stronger by providing zealous representation for its citizens. Since that time the law firm has grown to fifteen lawyers with offices in three counties.

  • 1910
    Randolph Murdaugh started a law firm in Hampton in 1910, which would become PMPED.
  • 1920
    Randolph Murdaugh was elected Solicitor of South Carolina's 14th Judicial Circuit.
  • 1940
    Randolph "Buster" Murdaugh, Jr. was elected Solicitor of the 14th Judicial Circuit, taking over after his father.
  • 1940
    PMPED incorporated Palmetto Electric Cooperative and has continued to represent it for over 70 years.
  • 1958
    Randolph "Buster" Murdaugh, Jr. was a founding member of South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association.
  • 1961
    Clyde Eltzroth was elected to serve in the South Carolina General Assembly.
  • 1975
    The South Carolina General Assembly elected Clyde Eltzroth to serve as a circuit court judge in the 14th Judicial Circuit.
  • 1980
    PMPED opened an office in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
  • 1986
    Randolph Murdaugh III was elected Solicitor of the 14th Judicial Circuit, taking over after his father's tenure.
  • 2000
    PMPED opened an office in Walterboro, South Carolina.
  • 2004
    The South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association awarded Johnny Parker with its Founder's Award.
  • 2005
    The Murdaugh family's 85 consecutive years as Solicitor of the 14th Circuit came to an end upon Randolph Murdaugh III's retirement.
  • 2006
    The South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association elected Mark Ball to serve as its President.
  • 2010
    PMPED celebrated its 100th anniversary and was featured on SC ETV Radio's Walter Edgar's Journal.
